Wilshire Blvd stretched west as Los Angeles expanded in the early 20th century. Street cars and automobiles provided accessiblity that spurred development targeting the up-and-coming middle and more affluent upper-middle class.

The first all-metal house in the United States was built in a short 10 days as a case study in New York in 1931. It was purchased and moved to Palm Springs in 2017; reassembly started in 2023 on a parking lot of the Palm Springs Art Museum.

One of a number of small-scale Art Deco commercial buildings in downtown Long Beach is called, simply, the Art Deco Building. It was designed by locally prominent architect George D. Riddle and built in 1930 by J.D. Sherer & Son.

From the City’s “Historical Resources of Placentia” interactive map, the Marjie Building was the first brick building finished in the Placentia townsite. Bendix Baker built the two-story brick hotel and retail building in 1910.

Built as part of the Westwood Village development, the Fox Westwood Theatre was designed by Percy Parke Lewis in a Spanish Mission style. Since it opened on August 14, 1931, the theater was exclusively a first run movie palace.

Parkers’ Lighthouse, a restaurant on the east side of the entrance into Rainbow Harbor in Long Beach, anchors one end of Shoreline Village that was built in 1982 as part of a larger effort to revitalize Long Beach’s shoreline.

From the City’s “Historical Resources of Placentia” interactive map, the Calvary Church, built in 1926, is significant not only for its Spanish Colonial/Gothic architecture, but also for its place in the broad patterns of Placentia history.
