Claremont Depot
The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad passenger and freight station, commonly known as the Claremont Depot, was built in 1927. When AT&SF and its subsidiary, the Pacific Land Improvement Company, founded the town of Claremont in 1887, they built a wooden Gothic style depot. Its 1927 replacement was designed by Santa Fe architect William H. Mohr in a mixed Mission-Spanish Colonial Revival style featuring wooden doors with Santa Fe’s distinctive cross and circle logo with elaborate churrigueresque surrounds. The depot was closed in 1967 and remained vacant, falling into disrepair. Judy C. Wright fought successfully to save and restore the Depot, nominating it to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It was purchased by the City of Claremont in 1989, renovated and adapted to serve as a transit center in 1992.
