Driftwood Dairy, El Monte, Los Angeles County

Driftwood Dairy

Mike Dolan, assuming operation of the family business, founded Driftwood Dairy, Inc. in El Monte in 1946. The Driftwood Dairy drive-thru, a Googie gem on Lower Azuza Road, was built (and perhaps designed) by Theodore Masterson in 1961.

Saugus Cafe

The Original Saugus Cafe in Santa Clarita was founded in 1886 as the Saugus Eating House located in the Saugus Train Depot. It is the oldest restaurant in the Santa Clarita Valley and one of the oldest restaurants in Los Angeles County.

Chad’s

A plaque on the wall under the Chad’s sign on Cabrillo Blvd in Santa Barbara chronicles that it was “Sambo’s Birthplace – On this location, June 17, 1957, the first of Sambo’s nationwide chain of family restaurants opened its doors.”

Carousel House

The Carousel House located in Chase Palm Park in Santa Barbara was built in 1997-8 to house an historic 1916 Herschell Three-Abreast Carousel, one of three machines produced by the Allan Herschell Factory in the 1915-1917 time frame.
