Forum, Inglewood, Los Angeles County

Forum

Nicknamed the “Fabulous Forum” by Lakers announcer Chick Hearn, the Forum in Inglewood opened in December 1967 on the site of a former golf course. The unusual and groundbreaking structure was designed by Charles Luckman and brought to life by engineers Carl Johnson and Svend Nielsen. It was one of the best-known indoor sports venues in the U.S. as the home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Kings. It was the site of NBA and NHL All-Star games, Olympic, Big West and Pacific-10 Conference basketball games, tennis and boxing matches, major music concerts and political events. It was purchased by the Madison Square Garden Company in 2012 to renovate the arena as a world-class concert venue. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
