More info & imagesIn December, 1912, Griffith J. Griffith offered the City of Los Angeles $100,000 for an observatory to be built on the top of Mount Hollywood. Construction finally began in June, 1933, and the Observatory opened to the public on May 14, 1935.

Huntington brought the Pacific Electric Railway to town in 1904, turning it into a recreational attraction for travelers on the line and the city was renamed Huntington Beach in his honor.
