Petersen Automotive Museum

The Petersen Automotive Museum, one of the world’s largest automotive museums, is located on Wilshire Boulevard in the Miracle Mile neighborhood of Los Angeles. Founded in June, 1994, by magazine (Hot Rod and Motor Trend magazine among many others) publisher Robert E. Petersen and his wife Margie, the Petersen Automotive Museum Foundation, which owns and operates the museum, is a nonprofit organization specializing in automobile history and related educational programs. A former Orbach’s department store designed by Welton Becket was selected by Petersen for the museum as it allowed artifacts to be displayed without harmful exposure to direct sunlight. The museum underwent a $125 million renovation in 2015 adding a façade designed by the architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox.
