Irvine Spectrum Center opened in phases starting with “The Entertainment Center” in 1995. Phase II, which opened in 1998, featured architecture inspired by the Alhambra in Spain. Phase III, with the Giant Wheel, opened in 2002, Phase IV in 2018.

In March 1967, Orange County entered into a long term lease with the Navy for the perimeter acreage of a square mile site in what is now Fountain Valley. Mile Square Park opened in phases in 1970, 1973 and 1976; final development was completed in 1999.

Completion of the first of the two Spectrum Center Towers in Irvine in 2016 made it the tallest building in Orange County. Standing 323 feet tall, 200 Spectrum Center Dr was surpassed by 3 inches on completion of 400 Spectrum Center Dr in 2017.

In 1940, Walter Knott decided to go big with his efforts to give waiting diners something to do and began construction of Ghost Town. Over the years, he added real and replicas of historic buildings, trains and more.

Andreas Canyon near Palm Springs has a spring-fed, perennial creek that sustains the world’s second largest California Fan Palm (Washingtonia filifera) oasis as well as other trees, a multitude of plant species and diverse wildlife.
