Built in 1903 by the Southern Pacific Railroad, the Santa Susana Depot served the community of Rancho Simi as a passenger station, telegraph office and freight depot where farmers could deliver crops and pick up farming equipment.

The First National Bank Building has anchored one corner of downtown Ventura at Main & California Street since 1926. It is locally called the Gardner Building because Erle Stanley Gardner worked & wrote his first Perry Mason novel here.

The Hobson Brothers Meat Packing Company built this industrial Mission Revival style building in 1923. Chouinard Equipment opened their first retail store, the Great Pacific Iron Works, in this building in the early 1970s.

The Mary Mitchell House in Ventura was built by the Mitchell brothers for Edward Mitchell’s daughter in 1890. It is a combination of Queen Anne and Eastlake Victorian styles anchored by a square Gothic tower with a crenalated parapet.

In March 1782, Junipero Serra celebrated a High Mass and dedicated a mission to San Buenaventura, the 9th and last founded during his life. The mission is located in the historic downtown of Ventura and remains an active Catholic parish.

Richard and Mary Hunt purchased a large parcel of land in 1876 to establish the Salto Ranch in what is now the Lynn Ranch area of Thousand Oaks. They planted numerous eucalyptus trees and a grove of olive trees on the ranch.
