Built in 1958, Java Lanes was the oldest bowling alley in Long Beach and the last of the authentic Polynesian style bowling centers in So Cal. In 2004, the property was sold and Brookfield Homes built 79 condominiums on the site.

In 1983, the Wrather Corporation, operator of the Queen Mary, built the world’s largest, free-span aluminum geodesic dome near by to house a new attraction – Howard Hughes’s Hercules H4 Flying Boat or Spruce Goose as the press dubbed it.

Bembridge House, considered the most ornate Victorian residence in Long Beach, was built by Stephen and Josephine Green in 1906. It was purchased by Thomas Rankin in 1919 and inherited by his children, Dorothy Bembridge & Neil Rankin.

The Pacific Ballroom repurposed the Long Beach Arena in 2013. The Arena was the 1st Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center building, opening in 1962. Along the exterior wall is “Planet Ocean”, one of Wyland’s Whaling Walls.

The Pyramid opened on Nov 30, 1994. The CSU Long Beach icon rises 18 stories, each side of its perimeter measures 345 feet. It was renamed the Walter Pyramid in 2005 to acknowledge a generous donation from Mike & Arline Walter.

Cunard Line Job #534 launched as the Queen Mary on Sept 26, 1934. She boasted 5 dining areas and lounges, 2 cocktail bars and swimming pools, a ballroom and a small hospital. Her final voyage ended in Long Beach on Dec 9, 1967.

Built in 1938, the Cherry Avenue Lifeguard Station was moved from Linden Ave. in 1965. Parts of other stations and siding were added to make it the Long Beach Lifeguard Headquarters. It is a City of Long Beach Historic Landmark.
