Walter Pyramid, Long Beach, Los Angeles County

Walter Pyramid

The Pyramid, designed by Don Gibbs and built by the Nielson Construction Company of San Diego, was officially opened on November 30, 1994. Its 39,000 square feet of beechwood flooring accommodates nine volleyball courts or three full basketball courts. The CSU Long Beach icon rises 18 stories above the Long Beach skyline. Each side of its perimeter measures 345 feet (105 m), making it a mathematically true pyramid. It was renamed the Walter Pyramid in 2005 to acknowledge a generous donation from former dean Dr. Mike Walter and his wife, Arline.
