Paso Robles Carnegie Library

On receipt of a grant from the Carnegie Foundation, the Paso Robles Library Board entered into an agreement with Watsonville architect William H. Weeks to design a new city library building. Plans were finalized and construction by R.O. Summers of San Jose began in late 1907. The cornerstone was laid and the Classical Revival-style library was dedicated with much fanfare on June 19, 1908. By 1980 the library was outgrowing the building, but it wasn’t until 1995 that a new, larger building was dedicated. The City then turned over stewardship of the Carnegie Library to the El Paso de Robles Area Historical Society. The organization worked to preserve the building as the Paso Robles History Museum, an historical library and repository for items of local historic interest. The Paso Robles Carnegie Library is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
