Hollywood Theatre

Hollywood Theater, a 633-seat nickelodeon, opened on December 20, 1913. It was the second theater to open in Hollywood’s emerging theater district. A 2/10 Wurlitzer style 215 “Special,” opus 697, was installed in 1923. The theater was redesigned more than once. What we see today was the results of the combined the efforts of Claud Beelman, Clifford A. Balch and S. Charles Lee in 1938 although the interior has undergone other changes since. Originally owned by H.L. Lewis, it was operated by Fox West Coast Theatres and, ultimately, Mann’s Theatres when it was closed in 1992. It was converted into a venue for the Guinness Book of World Records in 1994 which closed in early 2024. It reopened in April 2025 as an amusement attraction. The Hollywood Theatre is a contributing structure to the Hollywood Blvd Commercial and Entertainment District on the National Register of Historic Places.
