Cooper House

Cooper House in the French Park area of Santa Ana was built for Reverend John Henry Cooper, pastor of the First Congregational Church, and his family in 1900. Rev. Cooper left First Congregational in 1902 and starting in 1905, Cooper house had numerous owners. The house was converted into a duplex sometime in the 1960s, but was restored to “its original lustre” in 2009. A state historical resources summary states that the Cooper House is “architecturally distinguished as a remarkably intact and characteristic example of the architectural eclecticism popular at the turn of the twentieth century” combining the characteristic elements of the Colonial Revival style with the surface complexity and wooden ornamentation of the Queen Anne. Cooper House is a contributing property to the French Park Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places.
