Pioneer Church
The Pioneer Church was built in Chatsworth in 1903 by volunteers in the Victorian style of New England architecture on land donated by prominent community figure Nelson A. Gray. In 1904, it was the only church in the northwest valley and a hub of community activity. The congregation grew following WWII and eventually moved to a larger and more modern church. The small church was abandoned and threatened with demolition. The Chatsworth Historical Society (CHS) formed in 1963 for the specific purpose of making the church a historical monument. The building was finally moved to Oakwood Memorial Park in early 1965. Restoration work was slow, but it was finally rededicated in 1976. The congregation of St. Mary the Virgin Anglican-Rite Catholic Church leased the property in 1981. It is a Chatsworth Historical Society Monument and Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument.
