Riverside County Courthouse, Riverside, Riverside County

Riverside County Courthouse

After splitting from San Bernardino County in 1893, the cornerstone for the first permanent Riverside County Courthouse was laid on May 7, 1903, and the building was completed in June 1904. Occupying nearly one city block, this prominent example of Beaux Arts architecture was designed by Franklin Pierce Burnham modeled on the Grand Palais in Paris. After sustaining minor damage in previous earthquakes, in 1994 the building was vacated following the Northridge quake. Riverside’s landmark was restored with funds from court filing fees and rededicated in October 1998. It is now one of fifteen courthouses serving the Superior Court of California. It is a City of Riverside Cultural Heritage Landmark and a Riverside County Historical Landmark.
