Founded in 1798 by Padre Fermin Francisco de Lasuen, the Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside was named for 13th-century French King Louis IX. Nicknamed the “King of the Missions,” it was the 18th of 21 missions built in Alta California.

Founded in 1769, the Mission San Diego de Alcalá was the 1st of the mission churches in California. In 1931 it was rebuilt to what architects J. E. Loveless & J. Marshall Miller determined was what the 1813 church must have looked like.

Crystal Cove State Park was previously owned by the Irvine Company where James Irvine II allowed friends, family and employees to build cottages. The historic district contains 46 beach cottages from the 1920s and 30s.

Mission San Juan Capistrano, the Jewel of the Missions, was founded by Junipero Serra in November, 1776, as the 7th of 21 Spanish missions established in California. Its Great Stone Church was destroyed by an 1812 earthquake.

The Mother Colony House, the oldest remaining wood-framed building in Orange County, was built by George Hansen in 1857. Hansen, a Los Angeles surveyor, was hired to survey and create the vineyard colony that became Anaheim.
