The Catalina Verdugo Adobe, one of the oldest structures in Glendale, is located on a small undeveloped parcel that was part of Rancho San Rafael that was granted to José María Verdugo. The commonly held date of construction is 1828.

The Hotel Glendale was conceived by a group of investors in response to Glendale’s boom during the late 1910s and early 1920s. It was designed in the Beaux Arts Classical style in 1924 by Arthur Lindley and Charles Selkirk.

Construction of El Miradero (The Overlook), the mansion built by Glendale pioneer Leslie Coombs Brand, was completed in 1904. The design was inspired by the East Indian Pavilion at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago.
