Brand Library & Art Center

Construction of El Miradero (The Overlook), the iconic mansion built by Glendale pioneer Leslie Coombs Brand at the base of the Verdugo Mountains, was completed in 1904. The design was inspired by the East Indian Pavilion at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Brand bequeathed the mansion to the City of Glendale with the stipulation that it be used as a library and the land as a public park. It is listed on the Glendale Register of Historic Resources.
