Ada & Charles Bowers donated the land on which the Charles W. Bowers Memorial Museum stands to the city of Santa Ana. The museum first opened its doors on Feb 13, 1936, as a city-run museum devoted primarily to the history of Orange County.

The Old Orange County Courthouse in Santa Ana is Southern California’s oldest court building. From its dedication in 1901, this granite and sandstone building has been the traditional home of county government.

Walter Muckenthaler moved to SoCal in the early 20th Century. He & his wife commissioned architect Frank Benchly to design & build their 18 room Mediterranean style mansion, the Muckenthaler House and Gardens in Fullerton, in 1923.

Swami’s is an internationally-known surf beach & point break in Encinitas. It was named by early ’60s surfers for the Swami Paramahansa Yogananda and the SRF temple that marks the entry to the beach.

Taking its name from concrete slabs from abandoned Marine barracks, Slab City is an unincorporated community near the Salton Sea. Leonard Knight & Charlie Russel had the greatest impact in the starting of the current settlement.

Once a shallow cove nicknamed Killer Dana by surfers, two massive breakwaters built in the late 60s created Dana Point Harbor. Dedicated July 1971, the marina has 2400+ slips, shopping, restaurants and the Ocean Institute.
