Elias Jackson “Lucky” Baldwin built the 1st Santa Anita Park in Arcadia in 1907. The grandstand burned down in 1912. His daughter, Anita, started to build a new park in 1932. Dr. Charles Strub and Hal Roach bought her out to complete it.

Walter & Cordelia Knott moved to Buena Park in 1920. In 1928, the first permanent building housed Cordelia’s tea room and berry market. Walter developed Ghost Town in 1940, eventually the first of Knott’s Berry Farm’s six themed areas.

La Tour, rising 60′ from Victoria Beach, was built in 1926 for Wm E Brown for beach access. In the 40s, owner Harold Kendrick hid coins around the tower’s base for children to find, contributing to the nickname Pirate’s Tower.

The Goodyear Airship Operations base in Carson opened in January 1968. It covers 27 acres on a wedge of land where the San Diego (I405) and Harbor (I110) Freeways intersect. Each day more than a million commuters drive past the base.
