Lars & Karn Pederson were members of the Norwegian Colony that settled the Conejo Valley in 1890 in the area that would become Thousand Oaks. Their typical turn-of-the-century farmhouse and water tower were constructed in 1913-14.

The Long Beach earthquake in 1933 irreparably damaged Anaheim Union High School, requiring its demolition. Construction of the new Art Deco administration building was part of the Work Projects Administration (WPA) project #8291.

The Harper Methodist Episcopal Church was chartered in what would become Costa Mesa on April 7, 1912. The church moved to a new location on W. 19th St. and built a sanctuary, with a 5-story tower, that was dedicated on July 30, 1928.

In 1904 Oxnard mayor Richard Haydock wrote a letter to Andrew Carnegie soliciting a donation to build a library in the city. Carnegie’s donatation covered all but $2,000 of the $14,000 cost. The Oxnard Public Library opened in 1907.

The new headquarters of the Los Angeles Times, designed by master architect Gordon Kaufmann in the Art Deco style, opened in 1935. The 10-story Mirror Building addition was designed by Rowland Crawford in a complimentary style in 1948.

The California Oil Museum in Santa Paula was established by the Union Oil Company in 1950 on the first floor of the building where the company itself had been established in the offices on the second floor in 1890.

Built for the modest sum of $4,592 and dedicated in 1889, the Episcopal Church of the Messiah in Santa Ana is both the oldest public building in continuous use and the oldest church building in continuous use in Orange County.
