Pederson Ranch House, Thousand Oaks, Ventura County

Pederson Ranch House

Lars and Karn Pederson were Norwegian immigrants and members of the Norwegian Colony that first settled the Conejo Valley in 1890 in the area that would become Thousand Oaks. Their typical turn-of-the-century farmhouse, with accompanying water tower, was constructed in 1913-14. Much of their 130-acre ranch was donated to California Lutheran College in 1957 by their son, Richard. Additional land, including the buildings, was given to the university in 1967, at which time the buildings were restored. When the structure’s original location was designated to become a science building, the cost of moving it 500 feet threatened its demolition. CLU alumni were able to raise the amount needed to move it in one day! The structure is a designated Ventura County Historic Landmark and Thousand Oaks Historical Landmark.
