In 1940, Walter Knott decided to go big with his efforts to give waiting diners something to do and began construction of Ghost Town. Over the years, he added real and replicas of historic buildings, trains and more.

The former Home Savings & Loan Bank (now Chase) at Beach & La Palma in Buena Park is generally a massive Modernist block built in 1978. Like some 150 Home Savings banks, it was designed and built by Millard Sheets featuring a huge mosaic.

The Whitaker-Jaynes House is the cornerstone of an historical park in Buena Park managed by the Buena Park Historical Society. Bacon House, Stage Stop Hotel and Tice House, built between 1884 & 1905, provide more historic context.

First Congregational Church of Buena Park was the 1st established church in Buena Park. A wood church was built on land donated by city founder James Whitaker at Tenth St. and Grand Ave. It was replaced by the present structure in 1929.

Walter & Cordelia Knott moved to Buena Park in 1920. In 1928, the first permanent building housed Cordelia’s tea room and berry market. Walter developed Ghost Town in 1940, eventually the first of Knott’s Berry Farm’s six themed areas.
