Smith-Tuthill Funeral Parlors

The stately 2 1/2 story structure on Broadway at Santa Ana Blvd in Santa Ana is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as the Smith-Tuthill Funeral Parlors. It was built as the residence and office for Dr. J. A. Crane and his wife in 1885. The property was purchased and owned by local businessman William Blount Hervey for several years before being acquired in 1910 by Stephen W. and George S. Smith, partners in Santa Ana’s pioneer undertaking firm. The Colonial Revival style rotunda, verandas and balconies were added during the remodeling of the structure as a mortuary. The oldest, continuously operating mortuary in Santa Ana closed in 1977. The building was repurposed in 1978 for financial offices and more recently as a restaurant.
