Whittier Packing House
Whittier Packing House, as it has been rebranded by a new owner, is the last remnant of the once-flourishing citrus industry in Whittier. From the City of Whittier: “In 1902, the [Whittier Citrus] Association made plans to build a packing plant and purchased a lot near an existing cannery, warehouse, and a packing plant. In 1904, the Association enlarged the facilities and incorporated the earlier buildings. By 1913, it was one of the largest packing plants in the State of California…” The building was dedicated to citrus production until 1951. It changed hands and purposes until 1980 when the building was converted into King Richard’s Antique Madness Mall and became the largest antiques mall in the state of California. The new owner “looks to bring new life to the Whittier Packing House” with a significant investment in restoration and refurbishment.
