Buchanan House
The Buchanan House in Orange is a 2-story, 2,274 sq ft residence that incorporates Classical Revival and Victorian styles. It was built in 1905 by George W. Buchanan who had emigrated with his wife Susan from Ohio to California in 1904, living for a time in Redlands before settling in Orange. Following in his father’s footsteps as a builder, George was, notably, the supervisor for construction of the Orange Carnegie Library built in 1908 (demolished in 1961) and inspector in charge of the building of the first major reservoir in Orange County. He served as a Trustee of the City of Orange, chairman of the Street Committee during the initial round of city street improvements and was appointed Superintendent of Streets in 1914. The Buchanan House is a contributing structure in the Old Towne Orange Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places.
