Los Angeles Swimming Stadium

The Los Angeles Swimming Stadium was constructed for the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Located adjacent to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the venue hosted the diving, swimming and water polo events and the swimming part of the modern pentathlon events. After the Games, it became a public pool and continued to host competitive swimming events. In 1958, it became the “home pool” for the USC Trojans. The facility started showing its age in the 1970s and a new pool was built for the 1984 Olympics. Damage due to the 1994 Northridge earthquake closed it down entirely. Extensive renovations completed in 2004 expanded the facilities to provide swimming and recreational opportunities. Now called the LA84 Foundation/John C. Argue Swim Stadium, it provides year-round swimming in heated pools as part of the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks EXPO Center.
