San Dimas Hotel
The San Dimas Hotel was the second structure built in the new town of San Dimas in 1885-87. It was designed by Joseph Cather Newsom and built by the San Jose Ranch Company as part of a land promotion to induce its guests to buy land. By the time it was completed in 1887, the anticipated land boom had fizzled out and the hotel never had a paying guest. In 1889, the property was sold to James W. and Sue Walker and was occupied by seven generations of Walkers and, by marriage, Carruthers. The property was turned into a restaurant in 1979 and renamed the San Dimas Mansion. The building became vacant in 1997. It was acquired by the City of San Dimas in 2000. Renovation was completed in 2008 and it now serves as the home of the San Dimas Historical Society and Museum upstairs and a restaurant downstairs. The hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
