Christie Hotel

Plans to build the new million dollar Hotel Christie in Hollywood were announced in the Los Angeles Evening Citizen News on August 13, 1920. The hotel was financed by Haldane H. Christie who commissioned renowned architect Arthur Rolland Kelly to build the three-tower, eight-story Georgian Revival building. Opening as the Christie Hotel in 1922, it was the first luxury hotel in Hollywood featuring 100 guestrooms, each with steam heat and private baths. After Haldane died in 1941, the hotel changed hands and names several times before being bought by the Church of Scientology in 1974, renovated and repurposed into their information center with the upper floors used for residential purposes. The Christie Hotel is a contributing structure to the Hollywood Boulevard Commercial and Entertainment District on the National Register of Historic Places.
