Santa Ana-Tustin Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA)

The Santa Ana-Tustin Young Men’s Christian Association building, across Civic Center Drive from the Old Orange County Courthouse in Santa Ana, was designed by noted architect Frederick H. Eley in the Spanish Colonial Revival style. The building was described as a veritable “hall of health” and a “character-building center” for boys and young men in the newspaper articles that heralded its opening on April 25, 1924. The 43,000 square foot building included a gymnasium, elevated running track and pool with private, dormitory rooms on the upper two floors. The building received a significant remodel in 1971, but closed its doors in 1991 due to low membership and debt. In 2020, the City sold the building to Caribou Industries ostensibly to develop the property into a hotel. It is listed on the Santa Ana Historic Register and the National Register of Historic Places.
