Huntington Beach High School
The Huntington Beach Company donated land to the recently formed Huntington Beach Union High School District for the construction of a high school in 1908. The school opened the next year. All the buildings on the campus, including the bell tower and auditorium, were replaced in 1926. The new buildings were designed in a Lombard Romanesque Revival style according to the architects Allison and Allison of Santa Ana. Many of the buildings were demolished and rebuilt in the 1970s because they did not meet earthquake and fire codes, but community activism saved the Auditorium and Tower. The auditorium was renamed the Darrell R. Stillwagon Auditorium in March 2000 to honor the popular Activities Director. In July 2009, renovations were completed on the auditorium and tower. The tower and auditorium are designated as an Orange County Historical Site.
