SoCal Landmarks Landmark #500

Landmark #500

The architectural firm of William Pereira has a large footprint in Orange County – from the Hunt Branch Library in Fullerton to the Howard Johnson Hotel in Anaheim to the Chet Holifield Federal Building in Laguna Niguel to the Irvine Company headquarters in Newport Beach. The UC Regents decided in the late 1950s to expand the university system to a location in either southeast Los Angeles or Orange County and hired William Pereira to help identify a suitable site. That site turned out to be on the Irvine Ranch and Pereira would become the Master Architect. We are marking a special milestone for the SoCal Landmarks project, Landmark #500, with a feature of Pereira’s architecture on the UC Irvine campus. We are pleased to be able to include images by Ian Parker whose documentation provided great insight into Pereira’s architecture on the campus.
