Inside the Newland House
The Newland House in Huntington Beach, a 1-1/2-story frame Victorian in a midwestern adaptation of the Queen Anne style, belonged to Huntington Beach pioneers and community leaders William and Mary Newland. They lived in the thirteen room house for more than half a century and raised a family of 10 children. All of the woodwork, moldings and Douglas fir floors remain in excellent condition. There are walk-in closets in each bedroom. Built-in cabinets and drawers were included in the upstairs bedroom, front hall, sunporch and dining room. A narrow and steep stairway leads to the upstairs which contains a bedroom, a playroom, a closet, a dressing room alcove and the turret in which the pattern of the radiating supportive beams of its peaked roof construction are visible overhead. Newland House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
