Newland House, Huntington Beach, Orange County

Newland House

To quote the National Register of Historic Places: “The Newland House in Huntington Beach is significant because it is a rare example of pre-1900 architecture remaining in Huntington Beach and it is the only known Queen Anne style house [in the city]… [T]he Newland House remained a functioning ranch house for the same family into the 1950s and was never moved nor significantly altered.” William Taylor and Mary Juanita DeLapp Newland moved to California during the land boom of the 1880s. William purchased 500 acres of the former Rancho La Bolsa Chica in 1897 and had the house built by Dawes & Kuechel of Santa Ana the following year. The 1-1/2-story frame Victorian remains, highly visible, in its original location on a blufftop off of Beach Blvd and Adams Ave. It is the home of and maintained by the the Huntington Beach Historical Society.
