Welsh Presbyterian Church

`In 2013, the Pico Union Project brought a cycle of community service around full circle from the congregation of the Welsh Presbyterian Church and the congregation of Sinai Temple before them. The oldest remaining synagogue building in Los Angeles was built in the Greek Revival style in 1909 for the congregation of Sinai Temple. An historic pipe organ built by Murray M. Harris was a prominent feature. The Welsh Church moved in after Sinai Temple moved to the mid-Wilshire area in 1925. After their final service in December 2012, the congregation approached the Jewish Historical Society about returning the building to the Jewish Community. Musician and producer Craig Taubman bought the building to create “a vibrant community center that… is committed to be a source of light for all.” The building is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument.
