Pacific Electric Railway Company Depot, Yorba Linda, Orange County

Pacific Electric Railway Company Depot

The Pacific Electric Railway played an important role in the development of Orange County for decades. The third primary OC line to be built, the La Habra-Yorba Linda line, branched off the Whittier line in Los Nietos. It was built in stages, first to La Habra in 1908, then to Brea in 1909, and finally to Yorba Linda in 1910. Pacific Electric built a combination passenger and freight depot in Yorba Linda in 1911. The design was typical of the one used by Pacific Electric for a number of depots. Passenger service on the line continued until 1938. The railroad tracks were removed in 1951 and the grounds were converted for use as a nursery. Before Polly’s Pies opened in 1991, the depot had been used for commercial offices. The depot, one of the last surviving Pacific Electric Railway structures, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
