Cedros Design District
William S. Jack established the Bill Jack Scientific Instruments Company in Solana Beach in 1949. He built the row of Quonset huts on South Cedros Avenue “because he needed a place for people to work quickly.” The huts have been transformed, over time, to house shops, showrooms and restaurants in the Cedros Design District. The slow movement towards turning this area into a trendy, hip destination began in the 1970s and was bolstered by street improvements and the installation of sidewalks in the 1980s. In the early 1990s, the Cedros Design District Association was established. Since about 2000, the neighborhood has grown from mostly interior design and home improvement businesses to include art galleries, cafes, gift shops, clothing boutiques and more.
