Star of India
The Star of India in San Diego is the world’s oldest active sailing ship. Originally named Euterpe, it was built in Ramsey, Isle of Man, in 1863. Between 1871 and 1898, the ship made 21 circumnavigations hauling immigrants to New Zealand. Re-rigged from clipper ship to barque, the ship was renamed Star of India during its service in Alaska from 1902 to 1923. The Star is the crown jewel of the San Diego Maritime Museum and is a California Historical Landmark, a US National Landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places.
