Kimberly Crest Home and Gardens
Kimberly Crest House and Gardens in Redlands is a 22 room 7,000 square foot Victorian era estate with over 6 acres of Italian Renaissance styled gardens. Built in 1897, it was designed in the Châteauesque style by Oliver Perry Dennis and Lyman Farwell for Mrs. Cornelius Hill, a prominent Redlands pioneer. In 1905, John Alfred Kimberly, a co-founder of Kimberly-Clark, bought the house for his family. Kimberly’s wife, Helen, had the Italian gardens installed on the property. His widowed daughter, Mary Kimberly Shirk, collaborated with the City of Redlands to purchase the surrounding land, creating Prospect Park, and on her death in 1979, the home and gardens were bequeathed to the people of Redlands. It is a California Historical Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
