Casa Adobe de San Rafael, Glendale, Los Angeles County

Casa Adobe de San Rafael

The Casa Adobe de San Rafael was built in 1865 by Tomás Sanchez, first Sheriff of Los Angeles born in the county, and Maria Sepulveda, step-daughter of Rafaela Verdugo de Sepulveda. Large for an adobe house at that time, it suited Tomás and Maria well as they were well known in the area and loved to entertain. The family lived in the home until his death in 1882. Maria maintained the home until she fell on hard times and had to sell the home and surrounding land. The Casa Adobe was restored by the City of Glendale in 1932 and is a registered California Landmark.
