Fox Theatre, Fullerton, Orange County

Fox Fullerton Theatre

C. Stanley Chapman, son of Fullerton’s first mayor, hired the firm of Meyer & Holler, builders of Grauman’s Egyptian and Chinese Theaters in Hollywood, to design and build “Chapman’s Alician Court Theatre” named for his wife Alice. The theater, designed to look like an Italian Renaissance palace, was the largest motion picture house in Orange County when it opened in May 1925. The name changed five times before becoming the Fox Fullerton Theatre. In 1987, the Theatre and cafe sections were closed, subsequently suffering from vandalism, neglect and water damage. The Fullerton Historic Theatre Foundation, a community-based nonprofit organization, gained control of the theater in January, 2005, and is in the process of restoring and rehabilitating the structure. It is a Fullerton Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
