Groundbreaking for the new Blessed Sacrament Church in Hollywood was held March 13, 1927. Thomas F. Power’s design for the church adapted the Basilican form of the Italian Renaissance style. The new church was dedicated in June 1928.

Westfair Shopping Center in Huntington Beach opened in 1970. It is the only shopping center designed by Lloyd Wright (Frank’s son). What didn’t get built, however, was a 94-foot sign tower that locals felt “would blight their community.”

The City Plaza Tower in Orange is a landmark in the true sense of the word. Built in 1969-70, the 18-story tower, clearly visible from CA-22, rises rather starkly out of the parking area at the south end of The Outlets of Orange.

Historically significant artifacts, including two corn grain silos, were salvaged and a historic marker using brick from the ranch house foundation was built after the Northam Ranch house and barn in Huntington Beach burned down in 2000.

The 3rd Pacific Electric Railway line built in Orange County, the La Habra-Yorba Linda line, branched off the Whittier line. PE built a combo passenger-freight depot in Yorba Linda in 1911. Passenger service on the line ended in 1938.

The oldest remaining synagogue building in Los Angeles was built in the Greek Revival style in 1909 for the congregation of Sinai Temple. The Welsh Presbyterian Church moved in after Sinai Temple moved to the mid-Wilshire area in 1925.

Millard Sheets’s artwork is recognizable to many Southern Californians. Like many of Sheets’ Home Savings designs, the Garden Grove branch, completed in 1961, is in a minimalist style. The mural is a nod to the area’s agricultural roots.
