The Padua Hills Theatre was built in 1930 in the foothills north of Claremont as a community playhouse and dining room. It soon became the home for a unique theatrical group called the Mexican Players that performed there until 1974.

Sandwiched between houses in a suburban neighborhood, the 16-acre Anaheim Cemetery is the oldest of Orange County’s three public graveyards. The city’s German settlers established it in 1866, buying the acreage for a total of $100.

The newly created Diocese of Los Angeles-San Diego dedicated Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City on Memorial Day, 1939. The memorial park occupies almost 200 acres of land that had been part of the large land grant of Rancho La Ballona.

The Miguel Yorba Adobe in San Juan Capistrano, built circa 1797, and a courthouse with a jail in the basement built to its south around 1812 were connected in 1910 and built into El Adobe de Capistrano restaurant which opened in 1948.

Sid Grauman opened the first grand cinema palace in Los Angeles, the Million Dollar Theatre, at the corner of 3rd and Broadway in 1918. The prominent and elaborate Churrigueresque style decoration was expertly sculpted by Joseph Mora.

Sited on a hillside in the Hollywood Hills just west of Runyon Canyon, the Mission Revival Wattles Mansion, built in 1907 for Omaha banker Gurdon Wattles, with adjoining park and garden comprise the Wattles Estate, now a LA Park.

The present First Presbyterian Church building in Santa Ana was dedicated in 1938 after parts of the previous building were destroyed by the 1933 Long Beach earthquake and it was gutted to its foundation and a few outer walls.
