In September 1912, a four-room frame schoolhouse opened its doors to 62 elementary students in El Segundo. It continued to serve as a school until 1933. It was purchased by the El Segundo Woman’s Club and moved to its present location.

Completed in November, 1988, the Hsi Lai Temple in Hacienda Heights serves as the North American regional headquarters for the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist order founded in Taiwan. It is one of the largest Buddhist temples in the United States.

In 1926, the parishioners of St. Isidore in Los Alamitos built their church on land received from the Bixby Land Company. It was rebuilt in three months by church members when severely damaged by the 1933 Long Beach earthquake.

The Mormon Battalion Historic Site in Old Town San Diego was built in 1972 to tell the story of the members of the LDS Church who served in the US Army’s Mormon Battalion during the Mexican–American War. It was rebuilt, reopening in 2010.

Richard and Maurice McDonald started franchising their “Speedee Service System” in 1953. They commissioned Stanley Clark Meston to design a new building for a franchisee in Downey. By 1994, it was the World’s oldest remaining McDonald’s.

The Four Level or Bill Keene Memorial Interchange built in 1949 at the junction of US 101 (Hollywood Fwy) and CA 110 (Harbor Fwy/Arroyo Seco Pkwy) at the northern edge of Downtown Los Angeles was the first stack interchange in the world.
