St. Isadore Historical Plaza, Los Alamitos, Orange County

St. Isadore Historical Plaza

Established in 1921, St. Isidore in Los Alamitos was the fifth Catholic parish to emerge in Orange County. In 1926, the parishioners themselves built a church in the Mission Revival style on land received from the Bixby Land Company. The 1933 Long Beach earthquake caused severe damage to the building. Fund raising by the parishioners and donations from the Bixby Land Company and the Archdiocese allowed the community to rebuild the church within three months. Throughout the 1930s and early 1940s, individuals and families donated the funds for ten stained glass windows. The church was closed in 1960, then reopened from 1972 to 1999. A group of concerned parishioners, citizens and business leaders banded together to preserve and renovate St. Isidore Historical Plaza and succeeded in having the church listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2022.
