On December 7, 1930, Hollywood actress Mary Pickford dedicated the 8-ton cornerstone for a new hospital. The monumental 20-story, 1 million-square-foot Art Deco icon that came to be called simply Los Angeles General opened in 1933.

A $500,000 bond measure to finance construction of the core campus buildings of El Segundo High School passed in December 1925. Construction got underway in 1927 and the first 124 students began classes at the new school on Jan. 3, 1928.

The Glendale Municipal Airport opened in 1923. The Glendale Airport Association syndicate purchased the airport, renaming it Grand Central Terminal, and hired Henry Gogerty to construct an air terminal that opened on February 22, 1929.

The S.S. Encinitas and S.S. Moonlight appear to be two boats, 15′ tall by 20′ long, dry docked two blocks from the beach in Encinitas. Local architect Miles Minor Kellogg paid homage to his sea captain father by creating them in 1928.

The San Diego Athletic Club building opened in 1928. The club folded in the mid-1960s and it was subsequently converted to offices for Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, used for World Trade Center San Diego and is now Connections Housing.

In 1827, José Antonio Estudillo, son of a captain in the presidial garrison in San Diego, was granted a house lot. By 1829, he had completed the large house, La Casa de Estudillo, which still occupies the entire east side of town plaza.

In February 1931, San Diego State Teachers College moved to its newly completed campus consisting of six buildings. The Academic Building, the original campus entrance, was renamed Hepner Hall and is considered the symbol of the campus.
