The Santa Ysabel Asistencia was founded in 1818 as a “sub-mission” to Mission San Diego de Alcalá. It was to have been a link in a second, inland chain of missions in Alta California, a rest stop between San Diego and Sonora.

San Bernardino de Sena Estancia was a ranch outpost of Mission San Gabriel Arcángel established around 1830 at Politana rancheria. It was staffed with one priest to reach out to and convert the Serrano & Cahuilla Native American people.

Founded in December, 1786, Mission Santa Barbara is the only mission continuously operated by the Franciscan order since its founding. It sits on a bluff overlooking Santa Barbara, an active parish church in the LA Diocese.

Mission San Antonio de Pala was founded in 1816 by Fr. Antonio Peyri as an Asistencia to Mission San Luis Rey. It fell into disrepair after secularization in 1846, was partially restored in 1903 and fully restored in 1959.

Mission San Juan Capistrano, the Jewel of the Missions, was founded by Junipero Serra in November, 1776, as the 7th of 21 Spanish missions established in California. Its Great Stone Church was destroyed by an 1812 earthquake.
