Yard class wooden-hulled minesweeper YMS-228 was constructed in 1943 by the Ballard Marine Railway Company in Seattle, WA. She was renamed Wild Goose II in the late 1950s from which John Wayne dropped the II when he bought her in 1962.

The Catholic Church bought 4 lots on the Balboa Peninsula of Newport Beach and built a small wooden church in which, in 1924, the parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was established. The present church and rectory were built in 1950-51.

Charles Morgridge Loring, a Minneapolis businessman, spent his winters in the Riverside area in the late 1800s. In 1889, he commissioned Riverside architect A.C. Willard to design a three-story office block with an adjoining opera house.

The Griffith Park Zoo that opened in 1912 was constructed with a next-to-nothing budget from the L.A. City Council and was about as basic as it gets. It was populated with animals from abandoned menageries and the shuttered Eastlake Zoo.

According to the Riverside Museum, “The National Historic Landmark Harada House is a powerful civil rights landmark in California.” Purchased by Jukichi Harada in 1915, fundraising has finally provided the means to start restoration work.

Edward G Lewis set out to develop the master-planned Atascadero Colony in 1913. The 4-story Administration Building was designed by S.F. architect Walter D. Bliss. Completed in 1918, it was the Atascadero Colony Holding Company HQ.
