Bungalow courts were developed throughout Southern California, including San Diego, primarily from 1920 to 1950 to offer residents an attractive, affordable cottage with its own yard, a central courtyard and neighborly orientation.

The Edward L. Doheny Jr. Memorial Libary on the campus of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles opened in September 1932, a gift from the Doheny family in memory of USC alumnus “Ned” Doheny, who had been killed in 1929.

The five acres that make up Pershing Square in Los Angeles were dedicated as a public park known as La Plaza Abaja by Mayor Aguilar in 1866. The park was formally named Pershing Square in honor of the WWI general on November 8, 1918.

The vineyard owned by Anaheim Colonist Conrad Kuchel was subdivided and sold after he died. The Classic Box style apartment George Minder built in 1921 on Lot 7 passed through several hands before being bought in 1935 by Jennie Pomeroy.

World traveler and adventurer Cabot Abram Yerxa homesteaded 160 acres in the Coachella Valley in 1913. He then spent nearly 20 years wandering the world, returning to his homestead in 1939, he built his home in the Pueblo Revival Style.

The Scottish Rite Masonic Temple on Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles, designed by Millard Sheets, was completed in 1961. The Maurice & Paul Marciano Art Foundation repurposed it in 2017 as a contemporary art space paying homage to its past.

During FDR’s administration, the Civilian Conservation Corp. (CCC) constructed picnic areas, campgrounds, parking lots and a custodian’s lodge at Doheny State Beach. Only a plastered and tiled adobe entryway along Coast Highway remains.
