Minder-Pomeroy Apartments, Anaheim, Orange County

Minder-Pomeroy Apartments

Vineyard Lot D-3 was owned by Conrad Kuchel who came to Anaheim in 1859 with the first wave of Colonists. His family subdivided and sold the vineyard after his death. The Classic Box style apartment George Minder built in 1921 on Lot 7 draws its influence from New England salt-box houses. An unusual flat roofline caps the structure with a short parapet wall surounding the perimeter. The apartment passed through several owners before being bought in 1935 by Jennie Pomeroy and her daughter, Minnie Palmer. It remained in the Pomeroy family until 1988. Meghan Shigo, a local realtor and preservationist, rehabilitated the property back to its early 20th Century appearance in the early 2000s, retaining the original clapboard exterior. It was added to the Anaheim Mills Act Program in 2004 as part of the Anaheim Colony Historic District.
